Hello and welcome back to Literary Cobblestones!

In preparation for Dr. Seuss‘ birthday tomorrow, I thought we’d honor his memory a day early with one of his many beloved quotes. It was such a struggle to choose just one Dr. Seuss quote for today, so I’ve dedicated Friday’s (March 4th) listicle completely to him. Check back then for the 10 Best Dr. Seuss Literary Quotes! Until then, take a look at the Dr. Seuss links that I’ve compiled especially for you.

Literary Links You Need in Your Life

Check out the official Dr. Seuss site over at Seussville. The site offers a great biography of Seuss, but the majority of the information is geared toward children, parents and educators.

Lovers of linguistics should check out this article that explains the success of Dr. Seuss’ language, published by The Atlantic: “The Secret to Dr. Seuss’s Made-Up Words.” Check out a small excerpt to entice you to read the full article: “And while it’s probably not surprising that people found weird words funny, the interesting thing is that there was a pretty linear relationship between how unusual the word was, and how humorous it was, and based on that, the researchers were able to predict how funny people would find different words.”

Finally, the University of California, San Diego has a collection of political cartoons created by Seuss when he was a cartoonist for the New Yorker: “Dr. Seuss Went to War.”
